HOLY MEN (revised) — HILARY L HUNT MD

Doesn’t that term send shock waves of imagination through your entire being—both exhilaration and guilt? Exhilaration, because we marvel at the thought of someone being so pious, benevolent, holy, and perfect. Guilt, because, instantaneously, either consciously, subconsciously, or both, we realize we do not fit that mold. Then, we must ask ourselves how we came by those ingrained ideas in the first place, and secondly, are they justified? I can’t answer with certainty for you, but I can for myself.

From day one of my earliest memories until this very day, I have been schooled in the idea that certain people are known to have followed ‘God’s Laws’ to perfection, and thereby, are known, and have been certified, to be saints in heaven. The question then arises; ‘who makes those observations and certifications?’. Early in my Roman Catholic schooling, training, and upbringing, I didn’t really question such ideas—I just marveled at them. The disappointment came rapidly as I soon realized I couldn’t be one of them—I was too bad—I felt guilty.

As I got older, and the level of understanding and interpretation expanded with specifics about certain saints, I learned there might be a glimmer of hope for me after all. One prime example, touted with great exuberance, was Augustine of Hippo. I learned from the Catholic sisters, who taught me, that Augustine had been a womanizer of the highest degree—a real no-no for becoming a ‘saint’. But he had ‘an ace in the hole’, his mother, saint Monica. Throughout all the seventeen years of his life of debauchery, he squandered everything he had. Not only that, but he also tried every religion he could find—none fit. In the meantime, Monica continued to pray for his conversion. Finally, after years of indulgence and a burned out, spent life, he converted to Roman Catholicism.

Augustine was an intelligent man. Soon after his conversion, he became a priest. Realizing there was an unsettled controversy in the Church about the specifics of Original Sin and the Trinity, he developed a philosophy which explained them to the Church’s satisfaction—he was made Bishop of Hippo. He was canonized a saint some nine hundred years later—Monica, his mother, also was canonized.

A contemporary of Augustine, Jerome, was also a Catholic priest in Italy. He spoke both Greek and Latin. He is tributed with having translated the Bible from Greek to Latin. However, Dr Bart Ehrman, professor of Bible at North Carolina University, and a celebrated author about biblical concerns and events, asserts that, in his translation of the Bible from Greek to Latin, Jerome either eliminated or drastically changed most texts portraying ‘anything good’ about women—sex had become the absolute greatest evil in the Church’s eye, and ‘women were sex’. G. Rattray Taylor, in his insightful book, Sex in History, relates that Jerome became a staunch ascetic. In fact, to scourge himself more meaningfully, he moved from Italy to the Middle East desert in Judea where he became a hermit. He took three women with him. However, he made them dress as men, rub their face with dirt and ashes to hide their beauty, and torment their bodies continually, as he did. One of the women had four children. The oldest child died, and Jerome scolded her severely for weeping, telling her she should be thankful because, now she would have more time to devote to God—such was the ideation of ascetics—modern-day Opus Dei. Jerome was canonized three hundred-fifty years after his death.

Those two examples will serve to set the stage for who are considered to be ‘holy men’. Now, let’s back up thirty to forty years before Augustine and Jerome came along. The year is 325 AD. Jesus had been dead about three hundred years. The Jewish Kingdom was still under Roman control—a government within a government. The Jews were basically like sharecroppers under Roman rule, just as they had been in Jesus’ time. Christianity, of sorts, had spread eastward to all of Europe and North Africa along the Mediterranean Sea. Each town had its own bishop who was supreme ruler in his jurisdiction, However, there were many differences in Christian belief and practices from one Jurisdiction to another. Consequently, among the Christian Church, there was much squabbling and infighting, sometimes with outright hostility. Instead of working and producing for the Roman State, the Christians were spending their time bickering and arguing with each other. In the meantime, Emperor Constantine, and Emperors before him, had depleted both the Roman army and resources by engaging in perpetual conquests. The official Roman Religion at that time was Mithraism, a pagan religion which had been brought to Rome in 60 A D by the Roman Army from Persia—it was readily accepted by the Romans. Taylor asserts it is very similar to Roman Catholicism—the Church denies it. Be that as it may, Constantine reasoned that it would be more practical to make Christianity the official religion rather than attempt coercing the squabbling Christians into meaningful production. Consequently, He called the eighteen hundred world bishops into council at Nicaea—only 180 attended. At any rate, he commissioned those ‘holy men’ to form a religion of their liking—it would be enforced to the death by the Roman army. After much squabbling they formed a consensus, and the Holy Roman Catholic Church was born. In my humble opinion, it bore no resemblance to Jesus’ teaching. It reverted right back to the Jewish sacrificial religion which Jesus despised, and which got him killed for saying so. However, it did put those ‘holy men’ into a position of total control just as the King and High Priest were in Judaism—it gave them unadulterated control of our souls and our pocketbooks. As far as I can observe, nothing has changed to this day.

Oh, other ‘holy men’ finally split off from the ‘parent company’ and ‘set up housekeeping’ on their own. The visible result is forty-five thousand different churches and sects, each proposing to represent the real Jesus—all headed by ‘holy men’—all are imposters.

AGGRIVATIONS, FRUSTRATIONS, DISAPPOINTMENTS, AND GOD’S PERFECTION — HILARY L HUNT MD

How many times in an average day do we experience frustrating aggravations and/or disappointments? I dare say most active people experience such unpleasant events many times each day. In my own personal life, while working in my gardens, I will notice at least dozens daily—something is always snagged, out of line, or won’t function the way I want.

So, with that little intro, how should we react to such situations and, more importantly, why. Before we can logically address those questions, we must consider their source—and what is their source? — God’s Perfection.

The totality of knowledge (truth) in our universe is contained in all the quanta of energy of which everything is made and represents at a minimum the Perfect Rationality of our God’s Perfect Intellect, and includes the imprint of his Perfect Will, The Holy Spirit. So, everything that happens in our universe is perfect for its set of circumstances. Furthermore, none of that would apply in a different universe where a different knowledge base (truth system) exists. In fact, it is entirely possible that neither universe would/could recognize the other or, even know the other exists.

To help clarify and fully understand, let’s review what God’s Perfection is. I have defined God’s essence as ‘A Perfect Rational Being’ with no equal nor superior. That Perfect Rationality is exhibited by each tiny particle of energy of which everything in ‘our universe’ is made—notice, I said our universe. I am not suggesting there are other universes, but neither I can’t exclude the possibility. However, if such were the case, that universe would likely be the result of another Perfect Rationality with a different nature from ours. In other words, truth that pertains in our universe would not necessarily apply in the other. Sound crazy? Well maybe but hear me out.

All that talk about another universe with a different perfect rationality is, of course, purely speculative. Despite that fact, if another universe exists with the identical Truth System as ours, it would necessarily be generated by the same Perfect Rationality as ours—our God.

So, let’s get back to the nuances of everyday life. Before I became aware of our God’s essence, I reacted to them with anger, frustration, disappointment, disillusionment etc.—I simply didn’t want those frustrations. However, with my current understanding, I realized most of them were caused by me and my rebellious nature—I didn’t understand God’s Perfect rationality before.

Now, with such occurrences, I have to chuckle to myself and say, “that’s another example of God’s Perfection”. That ideation doesn’t lighten the workload, but it helps me to be more careful and patient. As an afterthought, I spend at least half my time talking to myself saying the same thing, “it’s God’s Perfection”.

I am constantly reminding myself that, if all those untoward actions and reactions did not occur and always in perfect fashion, nothing in this universe could or would be reliable and functional—everything would be a complete failure from its inception. That, of course, means we, nor anything we know of would be here.

It is God’s perfect knowledge-based truth system which makes everything possible including all our frustrations. Simultaneously, it is that same system which makes possible all the joy and happiness we experience for having accomplished something worthwhile using that identical system.

The System is Perfect—we just got to understand it and respect it for what it is— our God. We will never know and understand it all, but as a world society, we are learning more and more of God’s perfection daily. Meanwhile, that same knowledge has made it more likely that we may soon self-destruct, and for what reason? —power, control, and riches (money). The logical question then is, how did we come to this point?

The answer to that question is multifaceted, indeed, but from my perspective, the least common denominator of it all is lack of like mindedness about our creator God—our Perfect Rational Being. Every god of any kind ever suggested is a pure myth. Each person has his own god just as each child has its own Santa. Most of those gods have been deemed to be vengeful and demanding of appeasement— ‘religion’ came into being to satisfy that deemed demand. One might think and certainly would hope that religion would be an ameliorating factor in promoting like mindedness. However, vast experience has shown us just the opposite. Religion of any and all kinds has been the most divisive factor of all. Not only has it fostered and promoted perpetual hostilities among us worldwide but, by its basic irrational nature, it has enticed solution-seekers to dream up more destructive schemes of societal function such as socialism and communism.

Just look at our globe today—it could go up in a giant fireball any second. And what is to blame? —irrational religion and ideologies. All religion is irrational because not one of them I am aware of recognizes and respects our Perfect Rational Being as God. Until they humble themselves to that recognition, there can be no like mindedness—therefore, no peace is possible. Of course, doing so would negate the need for their existence, which means it’s not likely to happen anyways soon.

So, having said all that, we can help the cause of like mindedness and peace immeasurably by doing the following: when anything we attempt hits a snag such as inadvertently setting a cup too close to the edge and having it crash into pieces, or slip on an icy step and sustain an injury, or playing with our phone while driving, wreck our car, or grapple with a piece of netting which snags one time after another, or a billion other such occurrences, just quietly chuckle and say to ourselves, “it’s God’s Perfection”. Then we are becoming more tolerant of our own and other’s deficiencies–-just as Jesus commanded, we are loving our God and our neighbor as ourselves.

I have written extensively on these subjects. If you have not already read Wilderness cry, please do so. Then Peace in Spirituality and Provocative Catholic will ring true for you. Growing Up In Fancy Farm Kentucky may tickle your fancy.

HISTORY OF BAPTISM — HILARY L HUNT MD

A cursory review of ancient history will reveal that baptism, as a form of ritual cleansing and purification, was practiced by literally all cultures in ancient times, including Hindus. It seems likely, that the Egyptians were the earliest to employ it. A ritual washing in the waters of the Nile River was a surefire means of obtaining closeness to and favor of the gods. In fact, one account shows that drowning in the Nile or submersion of a corpse in its waters was a certain means of restoring life with their gods in the afterlife.

I can find no reference to Jewish baptism prior to Moses. You will recall that the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians for over two hundred years. Undoubtedly, during those entrapment years they adopted the Egyptian custom of baptism – hence it’s appearance in Mosaic law and its continuance till the time of John the Baptist. However, John’s baptism was a ritual cleansing of repentance.

Most Christians are taught to believe that Jesus, by his submission to baptism by John, gave sanctifying significance to the event – hence we have the ‘sacrament of Baptism’ in many Christian religions.

Now, let’s consider the plain, simple facts. Jesus was a Jewish male aged thirty-three. Number one, it would be unthinkable for a Jewish male of his age not to be married. Number two, it would be just as unthinkable for him not to have been baptized – maybe many times before — after all, it was a ritual purification. The bible writers glorified John’s baptism of Jesus by having God speak directly from the clouds to a local audience verifying his pleasure with the event and certifying Jesus as his only Son.

I have shown many, many times that all those ‘miracles’ are impossible because God would have to ‘change his nature from that of ‘a perfect rational being’ to a nilly-willy overlord who acted like a drunken sailor and could not be trusted under any circumstance – not a chance. In my humble opinion all that represents the mythological, astrological, superstitious ignorance of those writers who were determined to have their vision (version) of religion come true. As I have noted many times before, we simply do not and cannot know what the original writers said. The versions of the bible we have now represent the writing and rewriting ad nauseum of a single copy which was made from possibly thousands of recopies. It was the only surviving copy and was made two hundred-plus years after the original.

We can and should be very suspicious of all accounts from any current bible. That justification stems from the known fact that three hundred years after Jesus’ death, the Jews remained under Roman control. Rome, as it was in Jesus’ day, still allowed the Jews and their newfound Christian religions to be self-governed concerning their religion(s). The only thing Rome cared about was their productivity. By the year 325 AD, there were 1800 so-called bishops in the Christian domain of Rome. A bishop was the most prominent person in his community. Each Bishop had his own ideas about Jesus – what he said, and what he did, and what he meant. Hardly any two of them agreed with any others. Therefore, they were squabbling and infighting among themselves. They became so involved in their differences that their productivity diminished noticeably. Emperor Constantine became alarmed by their lack of production. His coffers were already depleted by all the wars he had been fighting. At that time, the official Roman religion was a pagan religion known as Mithraism. Constantine reasoned it would be wiser to make Christianity the official religion of the Empire, rather than further deplete his treasury and resources by trying to coerce the squabbling Christians into productivity.

Accordingly, he called a conference at Nicaea of the so-called Christian bishops. All eighteen hundred bishops were invited but only about three hundred attended. They squabbled among themselves from May till August before a consensus was reached. Some dissidents were excommunicated. Thus, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, and it had full support and protection of the Roman army. Any dissenters had two choices: beheading on the spot or banishment into the wilds.

The religion so formed represented the collective wishes of the consensus attendees. More importantly, it put each of them into positions of high power and influence. So, it is unthinkable that they would not have patterned their newfound Christian religion exactly after the lucrative father-religion, the Jewish religion – sacrifice and all. Only, this time the sacrifice was to be unbloody (they didn’t want all that mess). They devised a plan of actually recreating Jesus out of bread and wine, and then offering him to the Father in an unbloody sacrificial way – the Catholic ‘sacrifice of the mass’ was instituted.

Of course, baptism became the rite of initiation into the newformed church. Anyone not baptized could not enter heaven. Even though one might have led a holy life, if not baptized, he was relegated to a place in eternity known as ‘limbo’. When I was a child studying and learning Catholic catechism, I was taught that early infant baptism was imperative so that a newborn baby might not die and be committed to Limbo forever. Later, as a medical student and medical doctor delivering babies in a Catholic institution, Saint Louis University, that same urgency was instilled in me. I was to immediately baptize any newborn who might appear unlikely to survive the usual seven days allowed before average infant baptism. It is a curious thing that I haven’t heard the word Limbo mentioned from any pulpit in the last 40-50 years. Curious too, I have heard no protest from any pulpit about parents waiting two years or longer to have their child baptized – think I know why – it’s called alienation – don’t lose any prospects at any cost – to hell with limbo.

The Church gets away with this dictatorial overlording in a sly and cunning way. They know young people growing up don’t know the difference – they never heard of limbo, And the Church knows the old dudes like me who do know and who do remember will soon be gone. So, it’s conveniently ‘swept under the carpet’ as though it never happened.

It not only happened with limbo’, but also, it’s happening with nearly all the Church’s dictatorial, controlling rules, the breach of which would send one straight to hell or limbo. Again, I think I know why – it’s called ‘money honey’. People are dropping out of religion like dead flies falling off a wall. The dastardliest observation yet is the Church’s occult stance on abortion. The Church has gone from absolute prohibition against artificial birth control of any kind to overtly condoning the vilest of birth control devices or techniques, abortion.

Not only has the Pope given his blessing to the two biggest proponents of abortion in this country, Joe Biden, and Nancy Pelosi, both of whom profess to be Catholic, but now he has made a pro-abortionist bishop in California a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. Again, I think I know why – it’s called ‘money-honey’. It is intended to stem the outflow of young nonconformists from the church. Such hypocrisy, I have never witnessed in my lifetime of over 90 years – but the youngsters will never know the difference –another ‘sweep it under the rug’ deal.

So, to sum it all up in one neat little package – it only has value if it benefits the money flow of the Church – to hell with morality. And might I quickly add, I seriously doubt that my observations, or at least similar ones, are not applicable in most other churches besides the Catholic Church.

THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS (revised) — HILAY L HUNT MD

It is very likely that many, maybe most, of you have never heard of The Gospel Of Thomas. In truth, neither had I until about thirty years ago. In my research, I accidently discovered a reference to it, and being inquisitive, I purchase a book, edited by Ron Cameron, titled, The Other Gospels. What I discovered was a rather ‘eye-opening’ history of which I was unaware. It represents part of a cache of Coptic Christian writings found in a cave in 1945 at Nag Hammadi, Egypt. Furthermore, it seems clearly to predate the Canonical Gospels for two reasons. It appears to be Jesus talking directly to his disciples, with Thomas as the transcriptionist, and more importantly, it contains no mention of Jesus’ Pasion, Crucifixion, Resurrection, etc., as do the four Canonical Gospels. That, of course, implies it was written while Jesus was alive.

While first reading it, I was taken aback by some of Jesus’ statements and proclamations. His apparent description of God as being in all things, and being the ‘soul’ of everything, seemed to me to be in stark contrast to the ‘dualistic’ nature of the God which I had been taught in my Roman Catholic upbringing and education. I had always been taught that God was separate from his creation. He resided in Heaven, a ‘place’ somewhere in the sky where he was able to observe everything that went on in his universe. In fact, in the Old Testament, God is described as being very ‘vengeful’ and ‘hostile’ at times. However, he could show ‘mercy’, but one had to beg incessantly, and even ‘bargain’ with God to get it.

Well, also, there was a time when rich people could actually buy God’s mercy. You know, that seems like a paradox to me because, in one of the Canonical Gospels, Jesus is quoted as saying, “it would be easier for a camel to go through the needle’s eye than for a rich man to get to heaven”. Think about that for a second—the very thing that separates man from God, money, could be used by that same man to buy a ticket into God’s Heaven—hmm. Well, we know, of course, what he really was buying was a ‘clear conscience’, while, at the same time, enriching the Vatican coffers which had been depleted by squandering Popes. By the way, for the uninitiated in Roman Catholicism, that ticket was/is known as an ‘indulgence’. Later on, those tickets (indulgences) were attached to prayers—every prayer in my thick daily missal granted a varying number of days indulgence (reduced time in purgatory) by its reciting.

Certainly, there was never any notion taught to me that God lived in me, or a rat, or a grain of sand, or a flower etc.. It is possible, however, that God, once upon a time, might have lived in snakes, because snakes could actually talk to humans way back when—of course, they can’t now—well, maybe they do, and we just can’t understand them. Anyhow, years later, after Jesus’ death, the Apostle, Paul asserted that we are ‘temples of the Holy Spirit’—don’t you just wonder what his understanding of that statement was? —I do. It seems clear to me that likely no one, including Paul, understood what he was saying. I am allowed to say that because roughly three hundred years later, the squabbling Bishops who met in Nicaea, at Emperor Constantine’s behest, to form an ‘official Christian (catholic) Church, certainly didn’t know, and still don’t—they have yet to define the essence of God or the Trinity—I have done both.

It was several years later, while studying particle physics (Quantum Mechanics), that the Gospel of Thomas (Jesus’ direct words) began to ring true. Jesus was instructing them, unequivocally, that everything resided in God, and that God resided in everything. The Gospel of Thomas gave me the ‘Philosophical basis’, and Quantum Mechanics gave me the ‘Scientific Basis’ for defining unequivocally, and irrefutably, the essence of God—God Is A Perfect Rational Being. That definition not only allows for, but demands Trinity, and, furthermore, makes a graphic, visual understanding of Trinity God possible. I will explain one more time here:

God, with his Perfect Intellect reflects upon himself. That reflection, being in the supernatural, is a living being, God the Son, identical to the Father and Perfect in every respect. Those two Perfect individuals visualizing each other perpetually have no choice except to love, choose, accept, will each other. That loving, choosing, accepting, willing each other is the Holy Spirit or The Will Of God. So, there you have a simple, clear, easy to visualize, graphic pictorial of the Holy Trinity — something we have always been told was unintelligible to us humans. The reason we were always told that was because the tellers didn’t, and still do not, know the essence of the God of whom they speak. Without that essential definition and understanding, they could not possibly understand a Trinity God. The Church, in its ignorance has ascribed the Son (second person of the Trinity) to Jesus — nothing could be farther from the truth. Jesus was a zealot of the highest degree. His intention was to supplant the oppressive religion of the Jews with an understanding that God is All Love. Jesus was a human genius who recognized God’s presence in everything, including himself. He knew he would be killed for his zealotry, but he had hoped to convert the entire world to understanding and accepting God’s Love through the missionary work of his apostles — he was a monumental failure.

His failure is clearly demonstrated by those who formed the Holy Roman Catholic Church some three hundred years after his death. They reverted right back to the Jewish sacrificial religion, as exhibited by their institution of the sacrifice of the mass as a substitute religion for Judaism — it’s still going strong to the tune of over two billion Catholics worldwide.

The Gospel Of Thomas clearly shows Jesus’ genius mind at work, disparaging organized religion as being, not only of no practical value, but rather a major detergent to peace. Instead of being a uniting force, religion sets people against each other—witness the constant turmoil existing among Christians, Muslims and Atheistic Communists today. Rather than worshiping and attempting to appease a mythical god, sitting in some ‘ethereal palace’, Jesus commands us to see God in everything in order to find inner peace and communion with God and his creation.

We have to understand that every creature is ‘our friend’ in God. You might object by observing that snakes, ticks, spiders, mosquitos, chiggers etc. bite us—so would bears, wolves, alligators, lions, tigers, etc. kill and eat us. However, we, in turn, do the same to them. The reality is that they, as well as we, have to eat in order to survive. Just as we, they are doing what God designed them to do. When we come to recognize God’s presence in everything, we see clearly that, in reality, all of God’s creatures are feeding off him—we exist in a massive, self-contained and self-sustaining selfish system of perfect rationality, which is God. Simply stated, homo sapiens just happens to be the latest creature to appear in Gods evolutionary plan—wouldn’t you love to know what comes next—I certainly would. However, I might not like being here— very likely, I would be the hunted rather than the hunter. Since the earth is predicted to exist another five billion years or so, that creature, and, maybe, many more are in God’s evolutionary plan.

Jesus ‘exhortations’, found in the Gospel of Thomas, continue to be ignored, as they have been since his death—they actually killed him because of them. He was a traitor—his philosophy would have destroyed their power base and eliminated their ‘money-grubbing’ control over their subjects by supplanting their sacrificial religion of appeasement with a communion of ‘lovers’ —all would see God in everything —all would accept Jesus’ command to love God and our neighbor— peace would prevail.

Four or five years ago, I issued a plea for the recognition and acceptance of The Worldwide Communion of Spirituality. That plea is for the recognition and acceptance that the Spirit (Will) of God is imprinted onto every particle of energy of which everything in existence is made. Therefore we, and everything in existence represent a ‘mirror image’ of God—should God be fighting himself? I think not—what do you think?

I have outlined my philosophy, as supported by The Gospel Of Thomas, in my two books, Wilderness Cry, and Peace In Spirituality. You could enrich your New Year by their reading with an ‘open mind’.

Since the above post was made, I have published another book, Provocative Catholic. It shows how religion of any kind is the main cause of discord in the world. It also shows that all religion is false and cultist because all worship a god which is mythical. I am not only allowed but mandated to say ‘mythical’ because not one of them can define the essence of their god. I have defined the essence of my God thus: God is a Perfect Rational Being. That definition dispels the myth of all known organized religions. Furthermore, it shows conclusively that our only ‘justifiable prayer’ is thanksgiving. Also, it offers a ‘foolproof’ plan for peace.

By the way, the word eucharist means thanksgiving, but the Catholic Church and its near mimickers have made it into a ‘sacrificial’ offering–-they are still trying to appease an angry god just as the Jews were doing two thousand ago when Jesus called them hypocrites, a den of thieves, and a brood of vipers. Jesus despised religion and readily said so.

SPIRIT-SPIRITUAL-SPIRITUALITY—HILARY L HUNT MD

SPIRIT-SPIRITUAL-SPIRITUALITY— quite a long title involving two nouns and an adjective concerning the same subject. So, just what is ‘spirit’ anyway? We hear that word used often with seemingly different connotations. Often, especially at Halloween time, the word is meant to be synonymous with ghost. In fact, the original versions of the Bible refer to the Holy Ghost. As I personally listen, I strongly suspect the user of that word doesn’t fully comprehend its meaning—I may be wrong.

We often hear expressions such as, ‘that girl she sure has spirit’, or ‘he is such a spiritual guy—likewise, ‘I wonder where that group gets all of its spirituality?’, or ‘that is really a spirited horse’. What about the Holy Spirit?—probably the most common usage. And, no doubt, each listener has a different interpretation and/or understanding of what was said. Why do you suppose that is?

If you look up the definition of ‘spirit’ in the dictionary, you will find a long, rambling, jargonistic, definition with no explicit meaning. And that description stems from the fact that no one lacking an essential understanding of the ‘essence of God’, is able to be explicit —the definition of God’s essence demands the resultant understanding of who the Holy Spirit is. Likewise, it gives a concrete definition and understanding of the essential definition of ‘spirit’.

The understanding of God’s essence as ‘a Perfect Rational Being’ translates into a Perfect Intellect which perceives all, and a Perfect Will which achieves all. That Perfect Intellect represents God, the Father. The Father, reflecting upon himself, sees a ‘mirror image of himself’—being in the supernatural state means that image is a living being also, the second person of the Trinity, God the Son. Those two Perfect Intellects viewing each other have no choice but to accept (love, choose, will, spirit) each other. That willing, drive, choosing, loving each other carries the perpetual image of its generators, and, again, being in the supernatural, is a living being, identical to its generators—the third person of the Trinity—the Holy Ghost (Spirit). It is the ‘driving force of Perfect Acceptance’ (love, will, choice spirit).

With that perception in play, we may now define the essence of spirit in absolute terms: spirit is the ‘unseen driving force’ which causes an action—it may be described as drive, choice, love, acceptance, or will.

So then, how does ‘spiritual’ come into play? It most often is used in religious or contemplative way—usually describing an individual or group exhibiting a devotional attitude of one kind or another. Basically, it represents an internal aura of dedication or drive. However, it could just as well be used to describe the attitudinal dedication of a determined athlete or anyone dedicated to a cause of any kind. Its antonyms might be defined as lazy, indifferent, lackadaisical etc.

What about ‘spirituality’? Simply put, it is the state of being, or the defining quality of recognizing and accepting the source of spirit’. How, then, does it apply? In the natural world, like everything else, it has limits, faults, inconsistencies, and finiteness. Nevertheless, it has many good qualities. For instance, investigative spirituality has been responsible for literally all of the scientific discoveries as well as the benefits derived from those discoveries and their ensuing developments and deployments.

Since the beginning of recorded history, humanity has been shackled by a spirituality generated through astrology, superstition, and mythology—the ‘driving force’ of all of their beliefs and activities. That force led them to understand and believe that there was a ‘higher power’ which exerted influences on their lives. They reasoned, in one way or another, and, in one place or another, world-wide, but, surprisingly, in similar fashion how that/those higher powers operated. Most groups reasoned that those powers were responsible for all the good and bad things that happened in their lives. In addition, many surmised that those powers (gods) needed to be appeased in order to bring more good from them. Accordingly, various forms of sacrificial rituals were developed. Some of those rituals actually included human sacrifice—usually a teen-aged girl. Be that as it may, each and every one of those sacrificial rituals became known as ‘religion’. Strangely, it seems that rituals of every form and description sprang up rather simultaneously on all inhabited continent’s.

In South America, the native Maya and Inca nations built many temples of worship for their god. The north American natives as well as the far East Asians were more contemplative—they seemed to sense the presence of god in everything. The Native Americans had specific names for each of the visible and palpable elements ( wind, moon, stars, rivers, etc.). The Far Easterners, Hindus, Buddhists and related kind recognized the ‘presence of god in everything’, but, simultaneously, were intent on understanding and defining the basic essence of that god—I believe they still are.

On the other hand, in the Middle East, Abraham, a Hebrew, recognized and accepted the concept of a singular God. He and his successors developed schemes of ‘bargaining’ with him. In the meantime, the Egyptians had developed their own scheme of things based mainly on the Zodiac from fourteen thousand year back. They had baptism, and their god was a ‘trinity’ god—father, son, and holy ghost. The father was Geb, the original god. When a person died, he had to cross the Nebel Bridge in order to get to heaven and a new life. However’ on that bridge he met with a judge Osiris (the son) who balanced his good and bad deeds by weighing his heart with the feathers of the goddess Maat—if the good outweighed the bad he got free passage to heaven, a place of perpetual toil, but with the possibility of rebirth—if the bad outweighed the good, he got pushed off the bridge into Sheol, the Netherworld below, where he was eaten by the alligator god, Sobek. The god Kneph was the ‘breath of life’ known as the Holy Spirit, who imparted life to everything.

As time passed, famine hit the Hebrew tribe, and, consequently, they were obliged to purchase grain from the plentiful Egyptians. During the process, they became enslaved by the Egyptians—during that forty year entrapment, they adopted some of the Egyptian religious customs, particularly baptism. Upon their delivery from slavery and escape to the Promised Land, they also developed a religious scheme for appeasing their God. It started with the Ten Commandment and eventuated with 640-some rules and regulations controlling every aspect of Jewish life—sin was invented.

Enter Jesus, and Christianity was born. Through turmoil and strife, it spread rather rapidly westward to Europe and southward to North Africa. Reportedly, all of Jesus’ apostles were killed except John who was banished to the Isle of Patmos—he supposedly lived one hundred years. During those sixty five years or so, Peter, James and John developed a scheme of ‘power transfer’ from themselves to their underlings—and the framework for the first Catholic Church, which eventuated three hundred years later, was created. Peter, of course, was the first pope. Five hundred and seventy years or so after Jesus’ death, Mohammed established Islam—and the three Abrahamic religions were established.

Now, mind you, up to that point in time, there already were hundreds, maybe thousands, of different religions and religious sects in existence—and no two alike—many similar but no two identical. Since that time there have been thousands and thousands of religions spring up ,world-wide—and why?

Plainly, each in turn had ‘spirit’ but not a single one knew the ‘source’ of that spirit. Therefore each, in turn was based on a mythical understanding of its spiritual generator—mainly the Zodiac. While, I have not seen it personally, it is my understanding that a giant Zodiac is embedded in the stone/brickwork of Saint Peter’s Square in Rome.

So, with that historical overview, we can logically and legitimately address ‘spirit’ and its derivatives. We already know and understand that human, as well as, all ‘natural spirit’ is temporary and subject to both change and even failure. But what about Eternal Spirit—the Holy Spirit—how does it apply in our lives?

Allow me to start this way. We’re going to assume that we have a pile of identical bricks one hundred feet high and covering an area one mile square. In addition, we have seven other identical sized piles, but the bricks in each pile are a different size and color from the other seven piles. So, each brick in each pile is identical and indistinguishable from its counterparts in that pile—each is perfect in size, shape and function. Now we are ‘ready to build’.

So, dutifully, we go out and build, and build, and build. We build schools, temples, stores, post offices, etc. By the time we have exhausted all of our brick supply, guess what?—the mortar holding the bricks together in our first buildings has decayed, liberating the bricks—and our supply is magically replenished.

Now with this simple little paradigm, I have described God, the Big Bang and his continuing creation. It is God’s perfect intellect that envisioned each of those perfect, tinniest particles of energy of different varieties and functions (quanta). In aggregate, they represent a mirror reflection of that Perfect Intellect—they are God. He commissioned them with his Perfect Will (Holy Spirit) to be perfect and perform perfectly. Like their creator, each is prefect, unchanging, and unchangeable—like God they all exist in Eternity.

So what does all that means? Very simply, everything we see and don’t see is made of those perfect little bricks which never change. You’re looking out your window—that big tree in on your landscape is beautiful—some day it will vanish—its bricks won’t—they’ll show up in a blade of grass, a weed, a pile of mud, in water molecules… They may help constitute billions of physical objects before time ends and only Eternity is left, but guess what—they always have been eternal and perfect because they were imagined by God, and are driven by the Spirit of God who is prefect and eternal.

So then, what is Spirituality?—how does it apply to our recognizance? In my opinion, it is, in fact, the most important understanding and acceptance we can possibly have. Look at the world this very minute—nothing but chaos universally—there is no ‘peace’—there is no ‘tranquility’—why? Because there is absolutely no ‘like-mindedness’. And why is there no like-mindedness? Because no one knows who God is. In order for us to have like-mindedness, we absolutely must understand and accept the fact that everything in this universe is made of the identical prefect God-generated and Holy Spirit (God) commissioned particles of energy. We and every star in the farthest galaxy are of identical material—we are brothers and sisters with evert blade of grass, every tree, every flower , every fish, every existence of any kind—we all are God.

Like-mindedness delivers that understanding and acceptance—that my friends is Spirituality. In my Book, Wilderness Cry, I define the essence of God and its ramifications. In my book Peace in Spirituality, I elaborated on just one of a myriad of ramifications of that understanding—Spirituality—its meaning and implications. In calling for the World-wide Communion of Spirituality, I am reiterating my desperate call for Peace through Spirituality—religion not only has failed the process—it is the problem. Religion is not the peace-maker—it is the peace breaker.

OPPORTUNIST-Hilary L Hunt MD

OPPORTUNIST- May be described as an unscrupulous person who exploits circumstances to gain immediate advantage. Throughout the ages we have seen this form of activity played out in many different forums and on many different stages.

Lets consider the plight of Black Americans for a moment. If I understand history correctly, they were brought to America in the belly of ships equipped for no better than livestock. They were sold into slavery to the southern plantation owners. They lived in shacks on the meagerest food supply, and toiled daily in the fields. They had no rights of any kind since they were not considered to be truly human. Neither could they own land nor could they vote. Frequently their women were raped by white owners—just to enumerate some or their horrible existences.

In the early 1860s’, president Lincoln declared them to be freed—the Civil War began. Eventually, the North prevailed and the slaves were freed—what then? What were they going to do? Having no wherewithal and prompted by their natural instincts to get away from the their ‘slave masters’, they gradually migrated north to the cities. Here again, they were clustered together in meager housing with more meager sustenance—the slums were enhanced and enlarged.

With that brief history, fast-forward to my personal memory—post WW2. Every Democrat politician I have known or heard of has made wild, opportunistic promises to ‘help’ Black people in exchange for their vote. In spite of the fact that it was Abraham Lincoln, a Republican who freed them, like dutiful little sheep, they have obliged the Democrats by an estimated %90 or better margin.

To my understanding, and without much support from the Black voter, Donald Trump has done more for Black society than any other president in history. Yet look at the national scene. We have seen perpetual protesting from both Black and White against ‘Police brutality’ fostered by social media videos. Peaceful protests a la Dr. Martin Luther King are impossible—the paid anarchists, in opportunistic fashion, seize upon the moment for rioting, burning and looting. Not only that but it has gone on in some quarters for months with no Democrat ‘voice of dissent’. Donald Trump has been perpetually demeaned by liberal media and Democrats attempting to shift the blame onto him—another example of opportunism.

Now lets address other very visible cases of historical opportunism. The bible tells us that Moses commit murder as a young man. He was forced to escape and live in exile for roughly twenty years. Upon his return, sensing a void of leadership in the Israelite community, he and Aaron opportunistically seized power control over them and became their leader. Moses, of course, was responsible for the 10 Commandments and the creation of the concept of sin, another case of opportunism—Moses could maintain control of the Israelites by convincing them that God could either like and help them or he could hate and hurt them if they disobeyed him.

Now let’s fast-forward a few thousand years to the year 325 AD. Constantine was Emperor of the Roman Empire and the Jewish community as well as the new Christian communities were still under Roman control. By that time Jesus had been dead almost three hundred years. The ‘Christian’ Church was flourishing in a way. Due to the ‘power’ transfer in the hierarchy of the Church, the most prominent male in each little settlement had been consecrated a Bishop—there were 1800 such Bishops at the time. That may seem very well and good but there was one big problem. Few, if any of those Bishops and their followers agreed with the others about matters concerning Jesus, what he did, what he said, and what he meant. They were constantly bickering among themselves—at times actually fighting. They were supposed to be working and producing for the Empire, but their productivity was severely hampered by the distraction of religious differences.

Prior to that time, the official religion of the Empire was a pagan religion called Mithraism, and the Romans generally loved it. Opportunistically, Constantine, realized it would be easier to change the State Religion than try to settle disputes between Christian sects. Consequently, he called a general council at Nicaea. He invited all 1800 Bishops and offered to pay all of their expenses—only 180 or so showed up. Realizing how opportunistic they would be, he commissioned them to form a new unified religion of their own liking—it would become the new official Religion of the Roman Empire—Mithraism would be abolished. Anyone who refused to accept the new religion had two choices, beheading or abolishment to the wilds—what an opportunity for the Bishops. Of course, there were dissenters—some were beheaded. Eventually a consensus was reached and the Catholic (universal) church was born. Guess what, opportunistically, those Bishops put themselves in ‘total control’, and that control was guaranteed by the Roman Army.

So, has anything changed seventeen hundred years later? If so, I have been unable to detect it in my eighty seven years. We persist in having unscrupulous people in all walks of life preying on their fellow man—some say it’s worse now than ever—I doubt that.

There’s a reason for everything, and there’s a solution to every problem. I have systematically and painstakingly addressed the nature of those problems and their cure in my two books Wilderness Cry and Peace in Spirituality. You may wish to take this opportunity to avail yourself of those solutions in their reading.

FAITH vs. RELIGION-PART 2–HILARY L HUNT MD

Due to a glitch in navigating WordPress yesterday, I had to cut short my comments—my apologies. Today, I will continue with my conversation about faith and how it relates to Religion.

To begin with, just what is ‘faith’? Strictly stated, faith is the acceptance of something as being true without concrete evidence of that truth. In addition, there are two basic kinds of faith, ‘implicit’ and ‘explicit’.

A common example of ‘explicit faith’ would be a warranty on a new automobile—from past experience and hearsay, we know that manufacturers typically stand good for their stated warranty. So, we are legitimate in having explicit faith that they will again.

A common example of ‘implicit’ faith is demonstrated in our willingness to believe that when we get on an airplane, it will take us to our destination safely. We know from historical experience that commercial airline crashes in the US are rare. However, we are willing to ‘take that’ chance under the umbrella of ‘implied faith’ that all will be well.

Understandably, you may say ,’what’s that got to do with God and religion?’—and I would say ‘everything’, and here’s why. Those, among both the ancients and relative neophytes, who have concocted religions, have done so based on their version of ‘explicit faith’. In other words, God has ‘revealed’ to each of then a set of absolutes. So what then? Gradually those ‘absolutes’ demand interpretation and in that process of ‘implied faith’, a gazillion different religions have been formed (created). In truth, every human who ever existed has had a different faith and a different religion.

You may object, saying ‘I know twenty people who go to Saint ‘so and so’ Catholic church, and twenty more who go to ‘such and such’ Baptist Church, and so on and on and on. That may be absolutely true—-they go to a certain church, but no two of them have the same identical ‘faith or religion’

The reason for all that is very simple indeed—each of them knows (visualizes) a different God, because as I stated yesterday, no one before me has defined the ‘essence of God’. Therefore, not one of them knows the God about whom they think—each of those billions of gods are pure myths—they are like Santa—each similar but different, and all mythical.

It is impossible to know about any entity or concept without first defining its essence. Jesus didn’t know ‘particle physics’, but in his brilliance he recognized that the Spirit of God pervaded all existences—otherwise nothing could be. He set about to enlighten (Christ) the world about the universality and Perfect Love of God—that activity got him killed. He knew it would, but seeing himself as the ‘sacrificial lamb’, he willingly chose an ignominious death so that the world might be ‘enlightened’ (I am the light of the world) to the truth of God’s essence—Perfect Rationality.

It seems very doubtful if anyone either understood his message, or if they did understand, were willing to accept it. Remember, The Jews killed him for treason—teaching anything contrary to the Jewish religion was treason. Guess what—the formation of so-called Christianity followed in the Jews footsteps. They set themselves up in hierarchal arrangement. I guess one might call it ‘trickle-down power. Regardless how one may perceive it, the result was/is the same—power, control, money.

So what are the implications of defining God’s essence as Perfect Rationality. Very simply, something perfect cannot be changed. Time is a measure of change. Since God is perfect he exists in eternity, a state of no change nor time. God cannot be hurt. God cannot be pleased. God cannot possibly ‘change his mind’ about anything. So all of this praying, sacrificial ritual, begging God to change his mind, etc.. could, in fact be considered blasphemous. However, God’s Perfect Love precludes any possibility of ‘retribution’ on his part.

In fact, out only justifiable prayer, while not expected by God, but to keep us humble and appreciative of his love, is a great big ‘Thank you God for your loving acceptance of me , a selfish sinner’.

So where does religion fit in? My belief; it is the most major deterrent to tranquility and peace that the world has ever known. It is also the most ‘monstrous’ money machine the world has ever known.

I mentioned my two books about these subjects yesterday. I will attempt to insert info about them.

FAITH AND RELIGION–HILARY L HUNT MD

Faith may be defined as accepting an idea as being factual without proof. Religion, on the other hand may be defined as a cultist practice aimed at influencing or appeasing a vengeful God. So, do you have faith? —-do you have religion, or better said, do you practice some organized religious exercise? I suspect an honest answer would be ‘yes’ on both counts for the majority of people. Why do you suppose that is? I would suggest to you that we have been (to use a common term) ‘brainwashed’ by our parents, teachers, and preachers to that effect. So, the obvious question to be asked is, ‘what do you believe and why do you believe it? What belief prompts your religious practice?’

The majority of people in the USA profess some sort of “Christian” faith. Then the obvious question is, ‘just what does that mean? What does it mean to be Christian’? And how is it possible that of the 200,000,000 or so ‘Christians’ in this county alone, no two have an identical faith. Most immediate answers would be something like this—well. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

And I would say, ‘wait just one minute; who or what is Christ?’ Your answer likely would be fluttering, stuttering, and possibly unintelligible. Could you explain to a common simpleton what it means to be ‘Christ? If you could, you’d be extremely more talented than Jesus the Nazarene. As best I can determine, Jesus spent his entire public life attempting desperately to explain who the ‘Christ’ was to his apostles—literally 99.9999% of all written accounts show that he failed miserably.

The word Christ means king, and if it is to be used in Jesus’ title, it must always be Christ Jesus which means King Jesus. Jesus denied being a king, but he did profess to them that he was ‘the light of the world’, meaning that he was shining the beautiful light of God’s love on the entire world so it could once and for all be liberated from the oppressive religion of the Jews. Peter seems to be the first to recognize Jesus for who he was when he said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God’.

Jesus spent his entire public life in the shadows preaching the singularity of God—that is to say, he kept telling them that God is Perfect Love—the Jewish hierarchy certainly didn’t want to hear that—that was unbounded heresy and demanded death by the cruelest means—crucifixion—he was a traitor to the Jewish religion. Jesus was, in fact, a subversive traitor to the Jewish religion. His singular purpose was to supplant the guilt-ridden, money-making machine of the Jewish religion with a clear understanding that God is all love — he could not possibly reject anything he has created. Jesus wanted his brethren to know that God is in everything in existence and that everything in existence is in God.

Now, just what is religion? Plainly stated, religion is a cultist practice, overtly aimed at pleasing, appeasing, or influencing a vengeful God, but subtly aimed at power, money, and control. Just check a little history—who were the reapers of benefits from the Jewish ‘religion’? —The King and the High Priest. Has anything changed in 3000 years? —if so, its imperceptible.

So, what was Jesus telling them that was so bad? Very simply, that ‘God is in everything and everything is in God’—God loves us in spite of our wicked selves. Even most of his apostles didn’t seem to understand that (they had been brainwashed, just as you and I). Jesus was telling them what the Christ is. Christ is the ‘Light of the World’—Jesus was the ‘explainer’ of our heavenly, all loving, Creator. Jesus was a liberator who steadfastly looked the ‘scoundrels’ in the eye—he called them hypocrites, as indeed, they were. He knew his fate, but he courageously forged on. His apostles didn’t understand—maybe John a little. In his letter, John wrote, ‘brothers, what we are now, we know we are children of God. What we will become is yet to be determined. But. we know that when we get to heaven, we will be like him, because we will see him as he truly is’ (paraphrased). —how beautiful.

It took me sixty-five years of observing religion while exploring the meaning of faith to realize what was ‘missing’—-the essence of God had never explicitly been define—thousands had tried—all failed. By pure happenstance, I stumbled onto a monumental scientific course in Quantum Mechanics (Particle Physics) —it was like a miracle—Christ, the ‘Light of the World’ was plainly visible to me. Finally, God’s essence could be defined in ‘no uncertain terms’. Furthermore, that ‘essential definition’ not only defined our Creator conclusively, but more importantly, it negated completely the practice of cultist religion. That definition ‘opened doors’ never before opened except by Jesus the Christ. Seemingly, he was totally ignored—we’ll never know for sure, so distorted and ‘corrupted’ is the written word we have.

So once again for the uninitiated—God Is A Perfect Rational Being. Absolutely nothing can be added nor subtracted from that essential definition. I am allowed and mandated to form that essential definition through understanding the simple basics of particle physics. Its study shows clearly that there is a perfect rationality which pervades everything in existence. That perfect rationality stems from the fact that everything in this universe is made of perfect particles of energy with different designations and functions. A few names are electrons, photons, bosons, quarks etc. Each of these particles has the following characteristics: each is perfect in both form and function, none is distinguishable from its counterparts, none can be changed, none can be created nor destroyed my mankind, and not one more or less is in existence than at the time of their release nearly fourteen billion years ago. Are not those characteristics to be identified with eternity? I think so and furthermore, they represent that Perfect Rationality which I identify as God. Collectively, they represent all truth in this universe — they are a Perfect Truth System — they are God. Therefore, their essence is perfect rationality and God’s essence must be expressed likewise — God is a Perfect Rational Being.

Now consider this —God is perfect, unchanging and unchangeable. Yet so-called Christians are continually asking, begging, pleading with God in an attempt to appease him in one way or another, begging him to change his perfection. That would constitute blasphemy if done by a rational human. I would suggest to you that, in that sense, we are not rational — we are unadulteratedly ignorant.

More importantly, I would suggest to you that peace can never be achieved until every human comes to that understanding and acceptance — we must all become like-minded. Therefore, once again, I am calling for the ‘Worldwide Communion of Spirituality which means the understanding and acceptance that the Holy Spirit (Will of God) is imprinted on every particle of energy in this universe — peace will prevail then and only then.

In reading and studying the sayings of Pope Francis, I have concluded that he has arrived at similar conclusions as I. That is not surprising since he is a highly educated Jesuit. I could be wrong, but I suspect that he is being advised by his highly educated compatriots who would certainly know about science and specifically Particle Physics (Quantum Mechanics) — likely better than I. More praise to him for having the courage to ‘buck the traditionalist crowd’, and unashamedly profess an entirely new approach and understanding concerning a host of issues — premarital cohabitation, divorce and remarriage, prayer and communion with protestants, and common prayer with Jews and Muslims to name a few I have observed. It seems obvious to me that he recognizes everyone’s God is the same being. It seems obvious to me also that Pope Francis knows that peace can never be achieved without that common recognition by all.

I have outlined my complete philosophy, based on my essential definition of God’s essence in three books, Wilderness Cry, Peace in Spirituality, and Provocative Catholic. I encourage you to ‘liberate’ yourselves in their reading.

Attached are press-releases and short videos of Wilderness Cry and Peace in Spirituality produced by Covenant books prior to my publishing Provocative Catholic. I trust you will find inspiration in their viewing. In addition, I have published Growing Up In Fancy Farm Kentucky, which is a semi-autobiographical, semi-historical account of the first twenty-two years of my life — you may find it informational and humorous.

DERELICT-Hilary L Hunt MD

cropped-img_0360-1-e1509913859388.pngDERELICT—In common usage, this word typically refers to a vagabond-type person. Dereliction of duty typically refers to failure to shoulder one’s obligations and/or responsibilities. I think yours truly may fit into the latter category as of late, because, as a regular philosophical blogger, my followers were likely expecting to hear from me before now. However, as the old saying goes, ‘I’ve had other fish to fry’.

Since late January of this year, weather permitting, every spare moment of mine  has been spent in my gardens, clearing, fencing, tilling, planting, feeding, watering and finally harvesting. All of the above effort has been directed at fresh vegetable production for our local Community Kitchen which feeds free meals to  hundreds of indigents daily. With the dutiful help of my dear wife Ginny and a friend, Carol Cain, we recently finished the harvest of roughly 1000 pounds of fresh cabbage.

With all other crops and projects under reasonable control, I decided to ‘rationalize’ my way onto the golf course this past week. With a worn out back and two arthritic hips, walking any distance is impossible. So if we can’t drive our golf cars on the fairways, I have to refrain from playing golf. It finally quit raining two weeks ago which allowed car traffic on fairways, so I took advantage of that. Now back to the business at hand.

During the last several weeks we have witnessed episode after episode of apparent dereliction of duty which were, again, rationalized as justification for  episode after episode of looting and violence of all sorts.

IMG_0082So what are the causes of such derelictions. If one can believe any so-called news casts at all, it seems much of it was done by ‘hired guns’ for both political and social reasons. The leftists would use any excuse to blame President Trump for any and every untoward event of any kind in an attempt to sway public opinion against him. Then there are the genuine ‘lawless’ who seemingly want to take over chunks of entire cities so they can ‘have their way’ undeterred.

People who wished to protest peacefully had no chance—their voices and activities were drowned out completely. Thankfully, in our smaller cities and towns, civility pertained.

I am convinced that the breakdown of family life among black Americans is the prime culprit. Where there is no father-figure disciplinarian and role model, what can one expect? On the other hand, when black Americans were emancipated, what choice did they have but to migrate to the cities—and once there, what chance did they have?—slim and none.  They were still enslaved in an economic system completely untenable—they had no money, they owned no land, they were forced to live in slum conditions. More importantly, they were neither positioned nor conditioned to obtain the one vital thing they needed for prosperity—-education. So the inevitable happens—unwanted pregnancies with no father figure, and a mother with no visible means for support of her child(ren)—a welfare state was created.

I grew up a total pauper. But I had two very distinct advantages that the average black child in the ghettoes and slums cannot possibly have— we owned a little 30 acre farm from which we produce literally everything we ate, and we had extremely dedicated, hard-working parents who taught us hard work, determination and perseverance. With that paradigm as a model, success was possible and it did, in fact, come to fruition—would that every black child had that same opportunity.

Oh there have been, and are now, thousands of successful, honorable black Americans—-they were the fortunate ones. I have no statistics to back my statement, but I’ll bet most came from stable homes, or at least had trusted guardians and advisors.

I know many very successful black people in West Kentucky. Our educational system here encourages all to strive for excellence. Yet there are many, many who seemingly can’t help themselves. Much needs to be done yet.

This is Father’s Day. Isn’t it a crime that so many black and white children are fatherless—they obviously had a sire—a father?—no.

But who is the biggest culprit in this charade? Without any doubt in my mind, it is so-called Christian Churches. I recall vividly about fifteen years ago, when I was formulating  ideas for my first book, Wilderness Cry, my wife and I were having dinner with three other couples one night when I made that indictment of the ‘silent Churches’ regarding race. All but one of my friends bolted in ‘righteous indignation’ at the mere suggestion. I had just noted that, in general, not a single word was ever heard coming from any pulpit regarding slavery, or its aftermath, ‘implied slavery’. I was well aware by then that the almighty dollar was what concerned churches the most. Obviously, if churches were to point out the plight of blacks, then they were most obviously mandated to do something about it—that means spend their ‘almighty dollars’.

Furthermore, the mere mention of such an undertaking would alienate many parishioners, further reducing the coffers. Oh, if pressed, they might pay ‘lip service’—nothing more.

IMG_1065I believe without doubt, if there is lingering ‘systemic racism’, it comes straight from the ‘coward’ pulpits.

I recently watched a video interview of Cassius Clay shortly after he had won the Olympic Gold medal in boxing in 1960. He related how proud he had been to stand on that box, have that medal put around his neck, and listen to the playing of our National Anthe. He was so excited to get back to his home town of Louisville, KY, and celebrate with his friends and family. They went to a nice restaurant, and promptly were told that ‘blacks would not be served there’. He had been raised a Christian, but at that very moment, he determined that the Jesus he had been taught about was no friend of his—Allah became his God—Mohammed Ali became his name.

Where were the Christian Churches then—where are they now—where were they 400 years ago? You got it—blind, deaf, mutes.

Where do you suppose all that blindness comes from? Is  not the Old testament rife with stories of slavery. Were not both Ishmael and Esau the products of slave girl impregnation by their Jewish owners? Were not the Jews enslaved for forty years by the Egyptians? I don’t recall Jesus addressing the slave situation in the Bible we have. I may sound cynical, but I’ll bet he did—we’ll never know—how many ‘versions’ of the Bible have there been?—you don’t suppose Jesus’ possible words about slavery could have been a ‘convenient’ omission, do you? Knowing Jesus the way I do, my suspicion is very strong.. As best I can tell, all those monstrous church buildings in Europe and elsewhere were built with ‘slave labor’. God must ‘love slaves’ because they built all those beautiful churches to ‘please him’—guess whom they really pleased—I’ll give you three guesses—Popes, Cardinals, Bishops.

Derelicts in dereliction.

If you care for a real education, read my two little books, Wilderness Cry, and Peace in Spirituality. As an adjunct, read G. Rattray Taylor’s book (out of print but available used), Sex in History—you’ll get an ear full.

PICTURE OF GOD-Hilary L Hunt MD

cropped-img_0360-1-e1509913859388.pngPICTURE OF GOD–Do you know what God looks like? Have you ever seen pictures of God? If someone ask you to draw a picture of God for him/her, would you be able to do so? If you were to draw a picture either on paper or in your mind, where did that picture come from? How did you come to know what God looks like?

At first glance, you may consider all of these questions to be ‘simpleminded’ in nature. However, I suspect that, if you were to be truly introspective and honest with yourself, you’d have to admit that any and  all images of God that you may have were imprinted on your mind by pictures of God presented to you as ‘real’ during your earliest Christian indoctrination period—-I know mine are/were. Consequently, it is literally impossible to think ‘God’ without conjuring up one of those images.

Now lets examine the legitimacy of such images. In my experience, God is frequently pictured as a grizzled old man floating in semi-bust form in the clouds. Another usual presentation is that same grizzled old man in gala attire wearing a stunning crown sitting in the clouds on a brilliantly adorned throne with Jesus, in diminutive form, sitting by his right side. These are the two that stand out in my imagery. Logic demands that we, as intelligent beings, must ask ourselves the obvious question—who concocted those ideas and presented them to as a real, and for what purpose?

IMG_0082The Old Testament tells us that the Jews recognized God—they could talk to him and even bargain with him. In addition, they carried him around on their shoulders in The Arc Of The Covenant. I don’t recall the Old Testament describing what God looks like. As a matter of fact, I don’t remember any verbal description of God’s appearance in the New Testament or any later Christian writings—maybe there were some I missed. So, how did we become indoctrinated  with those images of God?

My common sense tells me the following: the Jews imagined a God patterned exactly after their own demeanor, only much more knowing and powerful—after all, he did create the entire universe. He could be loving, helpful, pleased and forgiving. Just like them, he could be displeased, hurt, angry, hateful and vengeful. So why not imagine him as a human-like person—he had all the ‘human-like’ characteristics.

It seems to me that both that identical  image and understanding of God has been perpetuated by the ‘Christian’ Church, and likely for a definite reason—they were determined to have a  humanistic relationship with God—their God could not possibly be elusive or intangible—he had to be ‘real’ in their minds. That mandate eventually became very ‘profitable’. As time went on, many paintings depicting Jesus, Mary, Joseph and many saints came to be—God had to be depicted somehow. So he was, and is, and is, and is……….

Jesus never described his Father in any way except eternal and loving. Nowhere, that I am aware of did Jesus describe God in ‘humanistic terms. Throughout the ages, great philosophers and theologians alike, recognizing the miniscule depiction of God in the Bible, determined that a ‘true’ understanding of God must be ascertained. Each, in turn, determined that the ‘essence’ of God must be defined before we could know the real  God. Each made a desperate effort at defining God’s essence—some came close—all systematically failed.

IMG_1065Why do you suppose the all failed. I think two main reasons—number one, they couldn’t abolish that image of a human-like God, and number two, they had absolutely no scientific understanding of anything in God’s creation. Had any one of them known the scientific facts of our existence, a true definition of God’s essence would very likely have been forthcoming.

The only ‘meaningful’ record we have of Jesus’ teachings about God is the Bible, and as a matter of absolute fact, we will never know exactly what Jesus said and did—so distorted and corrupted is the Bible. The earliest copy of the original writings is  a copy of a copy, of a copy made 200 or more years after the original. Since that time, dozens of different versions of the bible have appeared, each with a different twist.  Why do you suppose that is?

I believe, without doubt, there are several reasons. The original Christian (Catholic) church which emerged from the first Nicene council was fashioned by people who put ‘power’ over love. They lorded over their constituents in the most virulent and terrifying way. In the beginning, of course, they had the absolute protection of the Roman Army—their wish was the Roman Army’s command. After the fall of the Roman Empire, that protection ceased. The debauchery and simultaneous abuse by the hierarchy following Rome’s fall is well documented.

Based on this ‘humanistic’ image of God, well meaning mystics and ascetics alike began rationalizing the meaning of Jesus’ words. It has been shown by Prof. Bart Ehrman, that as Jerome translated the Bible into Latin, because of his extreme ascetism, he deliberately eliminated or change the meaning of almost every reference to anything good about women—after all, women were the ‘root of all evil’—women were evil. With the advent of the Protestant Reformation, Bibles began ‘sprouting up’ everywhere. Each ‘version’ was another man’s attempt to place Jesus’ words into a picture of his own God.

The ultimate result from all that confusing imagery is a Christian world fragmented into 33,000 or more denominations and sects, and each professing a God based on their own individual ‘imaginations’—not a single one of them knows the basic nature of God—Gods essence.

God cannot possibly be depicted rationally with a paint brush—God is supernatural and eternal. God has no body—God has no physical appearance. Teaching little children a  depiction of God in humanistic terms is ‘criminal’ in my opinion, because it leaves an indelible false image about the most important consideration of their lives. Little children soon learn that Santa is a myth.  His image will harmlessly persist in their minds forever. On the other hand, God is no myth—-he should not be presented to little children with a mythical image.

Neither I, nor anyone else can ‘paint you a picture’ of God—the invisible cannot be painted.

I can, however, and already have, irrefutably, defined for you God’s Essence— God is a Perfect Rational Being. That Perfect Rationality translates into ‘Perfect Love’. Therefore, God cannot possibly have any human characteristics—he cannot be hurt—he cannot hate—he cannot be vengeful. He can only ‘know all’ with his perfect intellect and ‘love that all’ (will, accept, choose) with his Perfect Will. Therefore Hell, Purgatory, Limbo, Higher Places in Heaven, etc. are all myths dreamed up (imagined) by various people trying to know and understand God from a humanistic standpoint—and likely for purposes of maintaining power and control which translates into owning your pocket book.

All of that imagination has engendered  the biggest money-making racket the world has ever known under the guise of keeping your soul out of Hell—that racket is known as Religion.

My two little books, Wilderness Cry and Peace in Spirituality say it all. You might want to investigate.
