The word itself stems from the Latin, ignorantem, which means lack of wisdom or knowledge, unawareness etc. Since the beginning of recorded history, great thinkers have tried desperately to define the essence of God. The word essence, itself, has derivation in many languages, but basically means “to be”. In other words, essence is that quality of being that make something what it basically is. Accidents are those attributes that make something the specific one of its essential kind. For instance, I frequently use the example of tables; the essence of a table is its “tableness”, that being the singular quality that makes it a table.
